Annie A. Jones, affectionately known throughout the community as “Mother Jones,” is a respected servant leader whose life has been defined by faith, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Originally from Pleebo, Maryland County, Liberia, she has become a trusted and influential figure within the Liberian community in Charlotte, known for her ability to bring people together, inspire collaboration, and lead with humility.
For years, Annie has been a dedicated member and leader within the Liberian Community Association of Greater Charlotte (LIBAC), where she currently serves as a Board Member. Throughout her service, she has played a vital role in supporting and advancing numerous community initiatives, earning a reputation as someone who not only talks about service but consistently puts it into action. Her hands-on leadership, reliability, and willingness to serve wherever needed have made her a cornerstone of many successful community programs and events.
Annie’s commitment to service was especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many families faced uncertainty and hardship, she stepped forward to help coordinate and deliver food, connect families with critical resources, and support vulnerable members of the community. Working alongside local nonprofit organizations and community partners, she helped provide clothing, baby supplies, and essential necessities to those in need. During one of the most challenging periods in recent history, Annie demonstrated the true meaning of servant leadership by placing the needs of others above her own.
Known affectionately as “Mother Jones,” Annie’s influence extends far beyond organizational titles. As a devoted mother, grandmother, foster parent, mentor, and godmother, she has touched countless lives through her guidance, encouragement, and generosity. Her home and heart have always been open to those in need, and her ability to nurture, uplift, and empower others has earned her the admiration and respect of people across generations.
A passionate advocate for youth development and community engagement, Annie has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for young people and families. Through partnerships with community organizations, she has helped support initiatives such as the annual F4F Tennis Event, promoting mentorship, healthy lifestyles, and positive youth involvement. She strongly believes that strong communities are built through collaboration, inclusion, and meaningful engagement.
Annie has also been a strong advocate for ensuring that the voices of Liberians in Charlotte are heard. Through her efforts to build relationships with local leaders and organizations, she has helped strengthen connections between the Liberian community and the broader Charlotte community, creating opportunities for representation, dialogue, and growth.
Professionally, Annie serves as a Rehabilitation Counselor, dedicating her career to helping individuals overcome challenges, achieve independence, and improve their quality of life. She is also a former kindergarten teacher, reflecting her lifelong passion for nurturing, educating, and empowering others.
Annie’s leadership philosophy is simple: listen first, serve faithfully, and bring people together. She believes that every voice matters and that lasting progress is achieved when communities work collectively toward a shared vision.
